The Ballroom

  • Ideal for weddings, theatrical events, presentations, large meetings and ceilidhs.
  • An original 18th Century ballroom and suite, originally used to host Edinburgh's literary elite.
  • Full kitchen and entertainment facilities.
  • Decorated in traditional style, with a modern sound and lighting rig.
  • Historical ambiance

The main ballroom and banqueting hall has been in use as an entertainment venue since the building was constructed in 1749, and has played host to luminaries such as Robert Burns, Dr Samuel Johnson and Thomas Blacklock, ex-resident and blind poet (hence the name of the bar downstairs). The stunning dome in the roof is an original feature, and formed the architectural basis for the Usher Hall on Lothian Road, after Andrew Usher, then resident at Pear Tree House, donated £100,000 for the building of a civic hall.

Heavy draped curtains, potted plants, subtle lighting and mirrored walls enhance the atmosphere and provide an elegant and stylish venue for any function.

The Lounge

Our self-contained lounge is perfect for serving buffets, providing a room for children or simply a quieter area away from the main hall. It is also available for hire on its own, making it a cost effective solution for small meetings.

The Bar

Our full fitted bar, staffed by our own knowledgeable bartenders, is fully stocked with a range of draught and bottled beers, wines, spirits and liqueurs, plus the all important single malt collection. Unusually for a function suite, we also carry a selection of excellent cask ales.

Bulk deals on wines and a pre-paid bar budget are also available for larger events.

The Attic

Our attic room is ideal for small meetings or presentations. Close seating for 36 is provided. Please note that the attic is accessed via a small spiral staircase which is not suitable for those with mobility problems.
